Who is The Online Designer?

My name is Claire Chapman and I have been active on the Montreal design scene since completing studies in Interior Decoration and Visual Presentation in 2004.

My professional endeavors include drafting and planning luxurious Neff kitchens, and working for the renowned design industry leader, Robert Allen Fabrics.

I have provided a long list of clients with decorating and design services ranging from short-term projects such as draperies and colour selection, to more complex projects involving kitchen and bathroom design and custom furniture creation.

So why the website?

Two kinds of people keep crossing my path : Super-busy clients, and people with "just one question".

Super-busy

It happened often that clients of mine were so busy they barely had time to meet with me. It would sometimes take weeks just to sit down with them to show them what I had put together for them! Most of our communication was through email and photos, with many of their messages written either very late at night or very early morning - or from some other part of the world as they travelled for business!

“Just one small question...”

Most of the "just one question" people I meet, be they friends, family, or clients, have a fairly clear idea of what they want. Like many people today, they are well-informed about decorating due to the abundance of readily available sources. But even if they've watched the shows, bought the books or read the magazines, they always remain doubtful : "It looks good in the picture, but will it look good in my living room?" There's always a question they need answered before feeling comfortable proceeding with the project, and I'm always happy to oblige.

And so I started to imagine a service where all these people could receive professional, customized advice for their projects through the internet. The busy ones could send their questions and check their consultations whenever it suited them, and the ones with the quick questions could receive customized advice for a fee much more reasonable than that of an in-home consultation.
